4 Wild Alaskan Smoked Salmon Recipes

1. Smoked Salmon Tart

The tart incorporates onion, smoked seafood, dill, lemon, and crème fraiche into a flaky, crust tart. Appetizing in appearance and bursting with flavor, you can use this dish as the centerpiece of your next dinner party.

Bake 1lb of puff pastry in a tart tin, then cool. Brown a sliced red onion in oil, add salt and pepper, and set aside. Stir 5 tbsp of crème fraiche with the juice of ½ a lemon and set aside. In the crust, layer the onions, then smoked salmon, and sprinkle 2 tsp of capers, chopped dill, and lemon zest over the top. When serving, drizzle with the crème fraiche.

2. Roasted Garlic, Salmon, & Potato Soup

A hearty soup is perfect for a cool day. Gather a head of garlic, olive oil, ¼ cup diced onion, 1 chopped carrot, 4 cups chicken stock, 4 cubed new potatoes, ground rosemary, ground thyme, ¾ cup heavy cream, ½ cup torn smoked salmon, 1 sliced green onion, and salt and pepper.

Cook carrot and onion in oil for 5 minutes, then add chicken stock, rosemary, thyme, and potatoes, simmering over medium heat for 20 minutes. Remove half of the potatoes and set aside. Add garlic to the soup, and use a stick blender to puree it.  Finish by adding the reserved cubed potatoes, cream, salmon, salt, pepper, and a dash of green onion.

3. Smoked Salmon Grilled Cheese

A fresh twist to a classic, this recipe is perfect for a busy day’s lunch. Get 8 pieces of your favorite bread, 8 oz. of smoked salmon, 1 cup gruyere cheese, 1 tbsp lemon zest, 2 tbsp chopped dill, and butter.

Evenly distribute ingredients—minus the butter—between 4 slices of bread, then top each slice with a plain one. Heat the butter in a large frying pan and cook the sandwiches on both sides until they’re golden brown and oozing cheese.

4. Spinach Salad With Smoked Salmon

With lemon-caper vinaigrette, this salad embraces the lightness of smoked seafood. Make your vinaigrette using 1 tsp lemon zest, 3 tbsp lemon juice, 3 tbsp chopped dill, 2 tbsp of brined capers, 1 tbsp Dijon mustard, ½ cup olive oil, and salt and pepper to taste. Combine everything but oil in a bowl, then slowly add oil to your desired consistency.

For the salad, combine 4 oz. of smoked salmon, 2 tbsp cream cheese cut into chunks, and croutons of your choosing in a large bowl. Pile 4 oz. baby spinach, 1 bulb of sliced fennel, ½ a sliced English cucumber, and ½ a sliced red onion on top. Toss with some of the dressing and serve with an extra drizzle.
