Making sure your kids are eating healthy and nutritious foods at the day care center can be a tough job, but if you’re smart about packing their snacks, you won’t ever have to worry. At Pumpkin Preschool, they put health among their top priorities, and fully encourage parents to develop innovative ways to incorporate nutritious foods into their kids’ meals.

In fact, here are five foods they think make great school snacks:

Strawberries: Low in calories and packed with nutrients, strawberries are a great pre or post-lunch snack that your child will enjoy. These little red fruits are one of the go-to snack foods that both parents and child care providers can approve of.

Yogurt: With a variety of options on the grocery store shelf, yogurt is a fantastic snack that is easy to pack and nutritious to eat. Yogurts low in sugar and high in protein, like Greek yogurt, are your best bet.

Hummus: Also packed with protein, hummus is a delicious and nutritious snack dip option. Pair it with crackers or sliced vegetables and your kids will have a filling snack that they’ll love.

Popcorn: Low fat and low sodium popcorn options provide kids with a tasty snack that’s fun to eat. For a bit of variety, you can season the popcorn with cheese, garlic, and other powdered seasonings.

Trail Mix: Whether store-bought or homemade, trail mix can be an enjoyable snack that keeps your child satiated throughout the school day. Be careful of trail mixes that load up on chocolate morsels and candy coated nuts.
