While working on computers, driving, and watching TV, people often tilt their heads forward for improved visibility. Doing so places a lot of stress on neck and shoulder muscles, which can lead to discomfort and poor posture. Below are a few chiropractic care exercises to help realign the back and improve posture.

3 Chiropractic Care Exercises to Try at Home & Work

1. Trapezius Stretch

Trapezius muscles are responsible for moving the head Florence-Kentucky-chiropractic-careand shoulder blades. To stretch them, sit in a chair and slowly bring your right ear as close to the right shoulder as possible. Hold the position for up to 30 seconds before moving the left ear to the left shoulder. Repeating this exercise a few times a day improves blood circulation to muscles to remedy tension that causes bad posture.

2. Reverse Shoulder Shrugs

When muscles are stressed and stiff, it can force bones and joints out of correct alignment. To loosen fatigued muscles and stretch the upper thoracic spine, practice 20 repetitions of the reverse shoulder shrug a few times a day while standing or sitting. With your head facing forward, raise both shoulders to ears simultaneously. From that position, move shoulder blades backward towards the spine and then down.

3. Chin Tucks

If repetitive movements cause strain to shoulder and arm muscles, the pain can move to the center or midline of the neck and compromise correct posture. To alleviate discomfort, stretch the neck three to four times a day using the chin tuck exercise. Start from a seated position with the head facing forward. Next, move the head back slowly, as if trying to touch your chin to your throat. Hold the position for eight seconds and repeat five times.
