If you’re retired and thinking about moving, a senior living community could be a perfect choice. Because every community is unique, you will need to consider your lifestyle and future needs as you visit campuses until you find one that fits. Here are some questions to ask while you’re there.

4 Questions to Ask When You Tour a Senior Living Community

1. What Services & Amenities Are Provided?

Many communities offer amenities like fitness centers, day spas, and recreation as well as services such as housekeeping and maintenance. Find out what is included and what comes at an additional cost. If you’re physically active or love to socialize, look for a community that offers activities to match your lifestyle.

2. What Level of Senior Care Is Offered?

senior livingYou may not need assisted living care now, but you never know what the future holds. Look for a campus that has future care plans, so you can stay within the same community. If the assisted living residents have different accommodations, tour those as well to make sure it’s a place you’d like to live if the need arises.

3. How Many Meals Are Included?

Are meals provided, and if so, how many per day? Plan to visit the community during a meal, so you can taste the food and experience the atmosphere as you dine with other residents. Ask to see a menu and find out how they handle dietary restrictions if you require accommodations.

4. Are Social Activities Offered?

Seniors are at high risk of feeling lonely or isolated, and it’s important to choose a community that will help you nurture new relationships and maintain strong ties to friends and family outside the community. Ask to see a schedule and look for a good mix of on- and off-site activities that include an array of opportunities.
