1. Service Your Generator

Change the oil and filter in your RV generator once a month or according to the schedule outlined in your manufacturer’s guidelines. You should also run your generator periodically, even while it’s in storage. This will prevent corrosion from disuse. 

2. Inspect the Roof Twice a Year

Water damage is a serious problem for RVs. To ensure water doesn’t leak into your vehicle, inspect the roof, vents, skylights, seals, and A/C units at least once every six months. Rubber roofs, in particular, should be re-treated every six months to prevent water- and sun-related damage.

3. Inspect RV Before Every Journey

Most people only take their RVs out a few times per year, so they can afford to spend extra time on RV repairs and inspections before each trip. During inspections, check that your tire pressure falls within the recommended range, lug nuts are tightened, and batteries are adequately charged.

4. Remove & Store Batteries During Winter

If you don’t tend to use your RV over winter, remove the batteries and store them in a warm location. That way they don’t freeze and lose their warranty.

5. Regularly Clean Slide-Outs

All those journeys through nature can cause dirt to build up in your RV. To ensure free movement of windows and slide-outs, regularly clean and lubricate them. Failing to do so could cause these parts to catch and tear.
