Seeing an occasional bird on a roof is common. However, if too many of these animals settle on the structure, they can cause significant problems for a roofing system, including clogging the gutters, scraping away granules in asphalt shingles with their claws, and leaving behind lots of potentially harmful waste. To keep your roof protected, consider the following bird repulsion tips.

4 Methods for Keeping Birds Off Your Roof

1. Use Sonic Bird Repellent

Birds are not known to be silent animals, and they are sensitive to the sounds of other birds in distress. By installing a sonic system on your roof that periodically plays screeches, cries, and the sounds of predators, birds that try to rest on the roof will be scared away. If such ambient sounds are not preferred, use an ultrasonic system that plays the sounds outside of the human hearing range instead.

2. Eliminate Their Food Source

roofBirds may settle on a roof before feeding on plants and flowers found on the property. Spraying gardens with an eco-friendly product containing methyl anthracite will reduce their food source without harming plants, which will lead them to find other sources of nutrition away from the house.

3. Install Spikes

Despite their wicked appearance, bird spikes do not harm these feathered creatures. Instead, they discourage birds from settling on a roof because they create an uncomfortable, uneven surface. The spikes come in a variety of colors and style that will complement nearly any home design.

4. Use Decoys

Since animals do not like to rest near a predator, a decoy with moving parts like fake feathers or reflective eyes will discourage them from congregating on the roof. For maximum effect, the predator decoy should be specific to the type of bird that needs removal. For instance, a hawk decoy will scare away turtle doves.
