Autumn will bring cool nights and football parties.  Attending a tailgate can be overwhelming for anyone in a weight loss program, but you certainly don’t want to miss out.  It is important to learn new strategies and options for attending social events so you can become an expert at balance and find specific strategies that work well for you.  Read below to make your tailgate a success!

Party Ideas for Low-Calorie Nutritious Foods:

Grilled Vegetables and Lean Meats.  Eggplant, kabobs, even pineapple is great grilled with shrimp, chicken, or lean beef.

Mulit-bean salads.  These are high in fiber and fill you up fast.  Add a light vinaigrette and watch the sugar or use Stevia or Splenda to sweeten.

Vegetable Soups and Chili’s.  These warm ideas can be filling and keep you warm for cold games.  High water content and fiber are sure ways to keep you from nibbling on more calorie-dense choices like chips and dips.

Strategies for Keeping Calories in Check:

Eat before you go. This is a must! Don’t show up hungry or high-fat, high-sugar foods can become hard to resist.

Fill up on low calorie fluids.  Drink your water, tea, or zero-calorie liquids to also keep hunger at bay. Watch the alcohol calories and limit the number of drinks.

Stay Active.  Play catch with the kids and/or friends.  Take an extra walk early in the day if you know you will be sitting for a longer period later.
