Your AC unit’s compressor helps transport refrigerant to the coils that provide cool air. If you notice your HVAC system isn’t working as well as it used to, it can be difficult to figure out exactly what’s wrong. Below, the AC repair team at Inman Heating & Cooling in Columbia, IL, share a few tips to help you determine if yours is failing.

3 Signs Your Compressor Needs AC Repairs

1. Blowing Warm Air

The compressor transports refrigerant to the condenser, where it is turned into a cool gas. When an air conditioner blows warm air, it usually means the compressor can’t circulate refrigerant through the unit. Another reason why your unit is blowing warm air may be a refrigerant leak. The more refrigerant that leaks out, the harder your compressor has to work to circulate the remaining liquid.

2. Makes a Lot of Noise

AC RepairCan you hear your outdoor system making unfamiliar rattling noises from all the way inside of the house? If so, your compressor may be in danger of failure. These noises usually occur when the fan motor is loose or dislodged inside the system. When the fan can’t blow air across the coils, the refrigerant cannot be cooled properly. The compressor may stop working as a result of overheating.

3. Circuit Breaker Trips Often

If your compressor is overheated, all the extra energy being generated will cause the circuit breaker to trip. Circuit breakers help prevent electrical fires, so act quickly. When you experience a breaker trip, turn the AC system off and turn the breaker back on. If you are still experiencing problems after 30 minutes, you will need an AC repair team to investigate further.
