Water Damage

What do you do when your phone creates a splash?

You pull your dripping phone out of whatever water receptacle it fell into, what is your first thought?  Find some uncooked rice and bury your phone in it.  Well, it is time to debunk that thought——> Rice is  a myth!  Good for food, though.

Here are your ideal steps after your phone takes a swim:

  1. Turn off your phone
  2. If you know how to take it apart, do it!
    1. Unplug the battery
    2. Remove the display assembly
    3. Use an air can to spray out the water
    4. Set the frame facedown to let any remaining water drip away from the logic board
  3. If you do not want to take your phone apart:
    1. Use a paper towel, vacuum, air gun to get as much water off of your phone
    2. Set your phone face down
      1. The display assembly is easily replaced at an inexpensive price compared to the consequences of damaging the logic board
  4. Take your phone to your local Experimax as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the more damage it creates.  Call 541-797-6863 if you are in Central Oregon or come into our store at the corner of Powers Rd and 3rd Street: 20205 Powers Rd Suite 101

Water damaged phones are a tough call.  If your phone sits for a few days before getting looked at, there is a chance it won’t be worth throwing money at it with the hope of it being repaired.  Thankfully, the phone manufacturers have been focusing on making phones more water resistant.

A water-saturated phone is not a reason to call the coroner if you move quickly.  Remember, the most important thing to do is shut your phone off and then follow the steps.  Here is another article in regards to water damaged phones:
