August is near the end of summer, so it’s not surprising to find many people trying to make the most of the season before the weather starts to cool down. Some go on road trips or vacations, and people spend more time outdoors to enjoy the sunny weather. Pritzl’s Trading Post, a leading home and garden shop in Nekoosa, WI, shares a few tips on how to enjoy the last weeks of the warm season.

Home & Garden Shop Lists Activities for August

1. Partake in Something Seasonal

Some fruits home and gardenand vegetables only grow during the summer season, so find out which ones are picked fresh off the farms. Fruits harvested in August include avocados, blueberries, strawberries, cantaloupes, honeydews, watermelons, and peaches, all of which you can eat raw as a quick snack. Enjoy them even more by adding them to your pastries and desserts. Consider picking seasonal vegetables like cabbages, bell peppers, and zucchinis as side dishes or garnish, and preserving summer berries as jams and spreads.

2. Get Back Outside

When it’s hot outside, it’s tempting to stay indoors where it’s cool and comfy. However, warm weather is also good for soaking up some sun for vitamin D, which promotes calcium absorption in the body, so take a brisk walk or quick jog around your neighborhood. Bask in the summer sun by having a picnic in the park with your loved ones or inviting friends over for a backyard barbecue and a few rounds of craft beer. With the sunny weather, take the chance to spruce up your yard with some gardening supplies from a home and garden shop.

3. Appreciate Changes in the Weather

Before it gets cooler, make sure that your home is prepped for the cold months by checking for areas that need repairs or replacements. It’s also an ideal opportunity for you to perform general cleaning to remove grime and dust from your home and air out some of your furniture in time for the cold weather. If you’re done with your summer activities, pack away your light clothes and equipment, but make sure that they’re cleaned well before storing.
