Compassion fatigue affects millions of physicians, therapists, teachers, dentists, and healers worldwide. Often called “vicarious traumatization,” this condition develops as a result of working with trauma patients and can cause feelings of hopelessness and despair. To heal, clinicians need rest. At these upcoming Caribbean retreats, hosted by Metro Collaborative™, you’ll have time to do just that—and more.

Reflect, Relax, Renew: A Healing Workshop

From August 25 through 31 and October 27 through 31, Metro Collaborative™ will be hosting two Caribbean retreats at the luxurious Villa Serena in the Dominican Republic. There, participants will have an opportunity to go on restorative nature walks, attend daily yoga classes, taste fresh, delicious food, and relax by the shore. They can also go on excursions and share their experience with fellow clinicians.

When participants aren’t enjoying the Villa Serena and its copious amenities, they will attend workshops on self-care and work/life balance taught by Bill Dennis, M.Ed and Natasha Despotovic, C.C.H. Bill Dennis, the founder of Metro Collaborative™, practiced psychotherapy at NYC’s Center for Holistic Medicine and has since taught collaborative medicine to therapists, physicians, and other clinicians in his private practice. Natasha Despotovic, on the other hand, is the executive director of an NGO in Washington D.C. and New York. She is also a certified yoga teacher and homeopath. Together, these facilitators will impart practical tools for managing stress and overcoming compassion fatigue. When the Caribbean retreat is over, participants will leave feeling rested and more connected to both the medical community and the natural world.
