Finding ways to deliver a quality college education takes consideration and planning every year. Beginning in August 2019, Southeast Community College will begin a semester academic calendar. It is transitioning from a quarter calendar system. Below is a brief guide to the changes and how it will positively impact students.

First Day of 2019 Fall Semester is Aug. 26

When & What Will Change

Beginning in August 2019, SCC will transition from a quarter academic calendar to a semester calendar. This change creates two 16-week academic sessions, one in the fall and one in the spring. SCC has been working on this transition for a few years and wants to make the it as smooth as possible for everyone. There will be no credit classes held from June 12 through Aug. 25, 2019. However, a normal summer schedule will resume in 2020.

Southeast Community College is prepared to give timely information so that current students, prospective students, faculty, staff, and the rest of the SCC community have the information for a smooth transition. A website, www.southeast.edu/Q2S, is dedicated to the transition. It will be consistently updated to reflect the changes and to keep everyone abreast of what they will need to do for their areas of learning. The College also will assist students in navigating the changes.

How It Impacts You

collegeSCC puts its students’ success first. The College is determined to ensure that each student receives the highest quality of instruction as it prepares students for a job or to transfer to a four-year school.

When it comes to optimizing learning, a semester system has many benefits to college students. Longer sessions allow students more time to absorb and master information. It helps students of all learning styles get the most out of their classes and career preparation. Semesters also are the most common academic timeline for colleges and universities around the country. The change will align SCC with its high school feeder schools and other four-year schools.

When you desire a college that suits your needs and career goals, Southeast Community College can help. Its diverse programs of study make it an attractive choice for thousands of students. It awards the associate degree, diploma and certificate in more than 50 programs. For more on SCC’s programs, call one of the campuses: 402-228-8214 for Beatrice, 402-437-2600 for Lincoln, or 402-761-8243 for Milford.
