Congressman Williams visited Coryell Memorial Healthcare System in Gatesville, TX, to get debriefed on the construction site explosion that left three dead and thirteen wounded. Led by David Byrom Coryell CEO, and Dr. Jeff Bates, Coryell CMO, the congressman toured parts of the campus, and viewed the site of the accident where the explosion occurred. Using photos from the event and a campus map, Mr. Byrom explained to Congressman Williams the immediate response from Coryell staff, and local, state and federal emergency responders, as well as on the overwhelming support received from the community.

The congressman said he thought the reopening of life saving services in less than a week was “remarkable”.

Congressman Williams was pleased to hear the expansion project, which includes a new twenty five bed hospital, two new operating rooms, sixteen bed medical rehab wing, and a cath lab, will continue to move forward, so that those services can be provided locally and members of this community won’t have to commute for healthcare.

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out the victims and their families that were affected by the explosion. As a healthcare facility whose mission it is to save lives, we are even more committed to finishing this hospital expansion project, so we can continue to strive to provide the highest quality of care to those who need us.
