Your kitchen countertops are put through a lot of use, especially if you love to cook and entertain, which can leave them with some unsightly stains. If you’re not careful, those stains can settle and become permanent blemishes. Whether you have granite or other natural stone countertops, try these tips for safely removing stains.

3 Tips for Removing Stains From Your Countertops

1. Use a Soap & Water Mixture

Many stone countertops, such as granite, are pretty durable, but abrasive cleaners and scrubs can leave scratches and damage the surface. That’s why you should always try to first remove stains using a simple mixture of soap and water. Combine a teaspoon of mild dishwashing liquid with two cups of water and apply it to the stain. Gently wipe it off, and then rinse with water. This should clean away most stains and residue before they damage your kitchen countertops.

2. Use Baking Soda

Apply the baking soda paste to the stain and allow it to sit overnight. Wipe it with warm water and a clean microfiber clothe the next morning. Stubborn stains usually disappear with this treatment.

3. Use Hydrogen Peroxide or Vinegar

With kitchen countertops, it’s always smart to use natural products over abrasive or harsh chemicals that can further damage them. Both hydrogen peroxide and white distilled vinegar can be used in place of chemical cleaners. Simply mix a cup of hydrogen peroxide or vinegar with a cup of water and spray it onto the stain. Leave it to set for at least an hour. Rinse it with warm water, and the stain should be gone.

No matter what method you use to remove stains from your kitchen countertops, it’s important to be gentle and careful. Otherwise, you could prematurely need a replacement countertop.
