4 Golf Clubs Every Beginner Should Have, Grants Lick, Kentucky

If you’re picking up golf as a new hobby, it’s wise to invest in quality equipment. Some of the most important items a golfer needs are their clubs, which make a big impact on your success rate on the green. Below are a list of the top four clubs beginners should purchase before hitting the golf course.

4 Golf Clubs Beginners Should Invest In

1. Driver

Also known as the 1 wood, the driver club is used to hit a golf ball off the tee and reach far distances around the green. This is possible due to the driver’s design, which features a low loft and long shaft. Keep in mind that beginners sometimes have a hard time handling this type of club. If this is the case, selecting a driver with a wider clubface can increase your chances of a successful drive.

2. 5 Iron

golfIrons between 5 and 7 are generally called “mid irons” and have smaller club heads than their wood counterparts. The 5 iron comes in handy when attempting a longer approach shot along the rough or fairway. When playing with this club, beginners should look out for low rises on hillier fairways, as hitting these is a common risk when using irons.

3. Sand Wedge

Beginners building their golf club collection should also start with a sand wedge. If you find your ball stuck in a bunker, the sand wedge’s loft angle (between 54 and 58 degrees) is the perfect tool for getting it back on the course. Many golfers also use their sand wedge in other situations, such as pitch and chip shots, as well as full swing shots when the hole is 60 to 90 yards away.

4. Putter

Lastly, it’s also a good idea to pick up a putter for your golf bag. This club is essential when attempting to roll your ball at a low speed into a nearby hole on the green. Putters usually have a flat, metal face and a very minimal angle. This helps avoid the chance of your ball losing contact with the ground once it’s been hit.
