Your dog is your favorite companion, so you want to bring them everywhere you go. Luckily, a growing number of public spaces, like shopping malls and restaurants, are embracing dog-friendly policies. However, before you start browsing the racks with your four-legged friend in tow, keep these etiquette tips in mind.

How to Shop With Your Dog

1. Check Which Stores Allow Dogs Ahead of Time

shoppingEven if a shopping mall is dog-friendly, some businesses may have their own policies. So you might be able to walk with your dog in the open areas of a shopping center, but you won’t be able to bring them into certain locations. If you’re visiting a specific store, check ahead of time before you bring your dog. For example, stores that carry fragile items or antiques may request that you leave your lovable but large Great Dane at home.

2. Avoid Taking Your Dog to Food Courts

As a rule of thumb, most indoor food establishments prohibit animals for food safety. Don’t bring your dog to food courts to avoid violating any health policies—plus, all those tasty smells might make it difficult to maintain your dog’s attention. However, if a restaurant has an outdoor dining area, they may let you dine with your pup.

3. Let Your Dog Relieve Themselves Before Entering Stores

Even if a store is dog-friendly, you should still let your dog relieve themselves before you browse. They’ll feel more comfortable, and you’ll reduce the chance of any accidents. Remember: if they mark it, you buy it.

With some pre-planning, you’ll be set for a wonderful outing with your dog at Maui Marketplace in Kahului, HI. This shopping center has everything from pet goods and clothing to home improvement supplies. You can also take a break from shopping at the diverse in-house food court.
