Kitchen appliances such as self-cleaning ovens provide busy homeowners with one less maintenance task. However, not all self-cleaning ovens are alike, as there are distinct differences between the ways in which each oven cleans itself. Consider those differences before you replace your current oven, and make an informed kitchen appliance purchase to enjoy a more efficient kitchen.

Self-Cleaning Ovens: What Are The Differences?

Pyrolytic

Launched by General Electric in 1963, pyrolytic self-cleaning ovens heat food residue so it carbonizes into ash. These ovens feature smooth enamel interiors to wipe the ash away easily. Pyrolytic models incinerate residue in every corner and crevice and typically take two to four hours to finish a cleaning cycle. These ovens sustain 500 to 1000 degree temperatures during this process.kitchen appliances

Steam Cleaning

Steam cleaning ovens combine heat and water to remove food residue. Like pyrolytic models, steam cleaning ovens feature enamel interiors for quick ash removal. Unlike pyrolytic models, these options cleanse oven interiors in less than an hour, and they heat to about 250 degrees.

Water in steam cleaning ovens comes out the bottom of the interior to remove food spills and splatters effectively. They use considerably less energy and do not include odorous fumes.

AquaLift™

AquaLift™ ovens feature water and heat-activated cleaning solutions to remove food residue in 40 minutes. Using this oven requires pouring water into the bottom to activate the cleanser before pushing the Clean and Start buttons. Afterward, remove the loosened food residue with a dry cloth or sponge once the cycle completes.

Like steam cleaning ovens, AquaLift™ ovens clean the bottom extraordinarily well, which is where most food spills and splatters occur.
