If you’re not sure where to start when it come to modifying your diet for weight loss, look no further.  By incorporating more vegetables into your diet you will most likely decrease your overall calories.  Also, by eating more vegetables in your diet you will not only get a powerhouse of nutrition but also more dietary fiber.  Fiber helps us to stay feeling full for longer periods of time and also helps to prevent constipation.

So how can you eat more vegetables?  Follow these 5 Tips below for some easy ways to get moving towards your weight loss goal.

  1. Experiment.  Try some new vegetables that you once thought you didn’t like. Or try a vegetable in a new way, like roasted.  Throw together a vegetable soup that your whole family will enjoy.
  2. Keep them chopped and in plain sight.  This will help to make accessible for a grab and go snack and for meal preparation.
  3. Limit the starchy ones.  The starchy vegetables have more calories per serving and are higher in carbohydrates.  These include corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, and winter squash.
  4. Don’t forget frozen.  In the winter months these come in really handy and are very nutritious.  Many of the frozen vegetables are just as nutritious as fresh because they are flash frozen.  Stock your freezer for a quick addition to any meal.
  5. Visit a Farmer’s Market or grow your own.  Shopping in season or growing your own vegetables can be a way to encourage healthy habits for your family.  Buying vegetables in season is the most economical way as well.

Don’t forget to get creative when adding more vegetables to your meals.  They can be thrown in most sauces, piled on pizza, and tossed in salad without much work.  Eat em’ up before they spoil and your waistline will thank you.
