This month, I have a number of “Advocacy Items” I would like to share.

Please know that CAP does our best to keep up with the latest happenings, “Hot” items, and science, but none of our Board of Directors/Newsletter writers are doctors.  We CAN try to answer your questions to the best of our ability – my email: sdkeepthefaith@gmail.com

On Friday, July 13th, I was part of a group that met with Senator Chris Murphy in Danbury (including CAP’s Joe Kelley, pictured above, together with Senator Murphy), “to draw attention to the recent threat to the current protections within the ACA surrounding pre-existing conditions.” For more information about this very troubling development, please see the “What’s Hot” section of this newsletter.

On August 10th I will be attending the Victory Summit in Los Angeles, “a moving day of information and inspiration, featuring dynamic presentations from leading movement disorder neurologists and therapists from across the country.”  My friend Amy Carlson will be hosting a meet and greet – great chance to catch up.

On Sunday, August 26th, I plan to be at the 7th Annual “Walk for PD,” which will be held at the White Memorial Conservation Center, 80 Whitehall Road, in Litchfield, CT.  This event is put together by our friends at the Torrington Area Parkinson’s Support Group. Please support this event - come and enjoy a picnic and a walk! Registration info here.

On September 26th & 27th, I will attend the “Grand Challenges” symposium at the Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  “Grand Challenges in Parkinson’s Disease brings together hundreds of scientists, clinicians and people with Parkinson’s to explore the latest Parkinson’s disease research. The theme for 2018 is Non-Motor Symptoms, which will highlight the roles of the gastrointestinal tract, the olfactory system and the immune system in the onset and progression of Parkinson’s.”
