Frolic Hawaii is one of the state’s most popular food and drinks blogs, helmed by and catering to local taste buds. The team tries and reports on a broad variety of Hawaiian fare, stopping by local cafes, restaurants, farms, and street carts to find the islands’ tastiest dishes. In June, Frolic Hawaii featured Kahuku Farms on the North Shore.

Frolic Hawaii Finds Sweet Treats at Kahuku Farms

The blog has a weekly feature called Fat Kid Friday, in which two reporters set out to find some of the most delicious desserts in Hawaii. On June 15, the Fat Kids stopped by Kahuku Farms’ Cafe to try some locally sourced treats.  All of the cafe’s ingredients come from the farm or neighbors, including acai berries and bananas. Whether you get a smoothie or an acai bowl, you’ll know you’re getting fresh, quality food.

Acai Bowl & Grilled Banana Bread Spotlight

cafeThe Fat Kids tried the acai bowl, which features Hawaiian acai with granola, apple bananas, lilikoi butter, honey, and graham-macadamia nut crumbs. “This is literally a melody in our mouths,” they commented on the dish, noting the delightful balance of flavors.

They also tried the grilled banana bread with house-made vanilla caramel and vanilla haupia. As the Fat Kids mentioned in their review, the haupia and caramel toppings are made from Kahuku Farms’ family recipes, and the vanilla is farm-grown. “It may be the best vanilla bean ice cream we’ve ever had,” they remarked, also noting the banana bread is delicious as well, with just the right moist texture.
