With summer in full swing and camping season coming up, you want to soak in as much of the great outdoors as possible. An ATV and UTV can help you achieve that goal. However, while they seem to be very similar, these machines are quite different from one another. Before making a purchase, find out the main differences between an ATV and UTV.

How Do ATVs & UTVs Differ?

What Is an ATV?

ATVATV stands for all-terrain vehicle, and they resemble a motorcycle in that you use handlebars to steer and place one leg on either side of the vehicle. Because these vehicles are meant to adapt to many different environments, they’re smaller in size for better handling. They can usually only fit a single person, although some manufacturers make ATVs for two people. They’re mostly used recreationally, and they are excellent for racing because they’re small and quick.

When Should I Consider Getting a UTV?

UTV stands for utility terrain vehicle. While an ATV is designed for recreation, a UTV can help you perform jobs, such as hauling. If you need to tow something often, then a UTV is the better choice. It can also drive over a wide variety of terrains, and they’re designed to carry between two and four people on bench-style seats. Due to their larger size and greater power, UTVs are typically more expensive than ATVs. You can also customize your ride with cab enclosures, upgraded stereos, and LED lighting systems.
