When planning your first skydiving experience, you’ll likely feel a mixture of excitement and nerves. One of the best ways to combat any anxiety about your first jump is to do plenty of research ahead of time. Below is a helpful beginner’s guide to skydiving to set you up for success and a free fall experience you’ll never forget.

What to Expect During Your First Tandem Skydiving Experience

What Should You Do Before You Jump?

  • Arrive Early: While you’ve likely booked a reservation time, arrive early to ensure you have ample time to sign in, sign your waver, and receive important instructional training.

  • Meet Your Instructor: About 15 minutes before flight time, your group will gear up and meet the instructors. This is the time to ask questions or share any concerns you may have. The instructors will provide valuable insight and help you feel confident and prepared for your dive.

  • Acquire Documentation: Many people choose to purchase video footage and photos of their first jump for long-lasting memories. A cameraman will be assigned to you specifically, capturing your experience before, during, and after the jump.

  • Enjoy the View: While the nerves may kick in during your flight up to the drop point, don’t forget to take a peek out your window. The views from that height are exceptional and add to the overall experience.

How Should You Dress for Tandem Skydiving?

skydivingBreathable, well fitted athletic wear will keep you comfortable during your free fall experience. Closed-toe shoes should also be worn and laced tightly. Those with long hair should tie it back to keep it out of the instructor’s line of sight.

What Happens After You Jump?

Once the pilot reaches the designated altitude for the drop point, your instructor will let you know it’s time to exit the aircraft. After the two of you jump, you’ll experience free fall for up to one minute at speeds of around 120 mph. Your instructor will then deploy your parachute, and you’ll fly peacefully for the next few minutes. When it’s time to land, your instructor will guide you safely to a grassy area, then remove your gear.
