Coryell Memorial Healthcare System wants to remind the community of our continued commitment to our patients during this difficult time.  Once we were given the okay to open our doors, we went straight to work doing what we do best – which is taking care of our community.  The 24/7 efforts by our staff, alongside other individuals and organizations, assisting us with safety checks, clean up and restocking of supplies made this possible. In addition, we were able to move our assisted living and skilled nursing residents home in less than a week, significantly ahead of initial expectations.

Our deepest sympathies go out to all those affected by the tragic events of June 26^th at Coryell Memorial Healthcare System (CMHS), and especially to the families of the two deceased and  fourteen injured construction workers. The event took place in a non-public area of the hospital which was under construction at the time. Our staff immediately ran towards the site, moments after the explosion, to do what they could, to try to render aid to the construction workers.  The determination of the cause, or causes, of the event are still under investigation, and due to the ongoing investigation we are unable to comment further about the cause or causes at this time.  We don’t have direct patient information as those workers were transferred to other facilities and not admitted to Coryell Memorial, but our thoughts are with the injured as we pray for their recovery.

As of Monday, July 2^nd our healthcare organization was up and running to full capacity in the hospital and clinic. Coryell Medical Clinic Building 1 and 2 opened on Monday, July 2^nd and is seeing scheduled patients with appointments. Coryell Urgent Care services are also available for walk-in patients, no appointment needed. 

Coryell Medical Clinic Building 1 and 2, which provide family practice and specialty services, are seeing scheduled patients with appointments. Four days after the event, urgent care services were opened for the first time by CMHS for walk-in patients, no appointment needed. The new 16-bed medical rehab that is connected to the Meadows Long-term Care was not affected by the event, and construction has resumed there, as well as on the front of the new hospital building. There is no activity in, and directly around the explosion site, as we allow the investigations to continue. 

As a result of the location of the event, none of Coryell Memorial Healthcare System inpatients, nursing home or skilled nursing facility residents were seriously injured.  We believe this may be in part due to the prompt response by medical and nonmedical staff. Our emergency preparedness plans were immediately initiated. In addition, the quick thinking of people on the scene and the rapid response of emergency personnel offered support in response to the event. The residents of the skilled nursing home, independent living, and assisted living were all brought back home a week after the incident. We could not be more grateful for the outpouring of support from all over. The acts of kindness have been inspiring during this trying time.
