Sometimes getting pregnant is harder than you ever expected. Unfortunately, over 6 million people in the United States have trouble conceiving a child, and many of these people also have to deal with the financial burden that comes with infertility and trying to conceive. Luckily, Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute in Honolulu, HI has been helping couples create the gift of life since 1985. With more than 4,700 babies born through their clinic, you can be confident that the dedicated IVF specialists are centered on you and your unique needs.

But what can you expect during the IVF process? At Pacific In Vitro, you and your partner will start with a consultation. During the appointment, an infertility specialist will explain the IVF treatment, perform various blood tests, and review you and your partner’s medical histories. Tests will include a pelvic exam, ultrasound, and a uterine measurement. Your male partner will also have a sperm analysis taken.

When the results from these tests are available, your doctor will discuss if you are a good candidate for IVF, and if it is a good option in your specific case.

Once IVF is determined to be the best option, the female partner's ovaries will be stimulated with medication and monitored frequently with ultrasounds and blood tests. When the eggs are ready, they are removed vaginally while the patient is under conscious intravenous sedation. Fortunately, this process is usually not painful and recovery time is short.

Next, the eggs are fertilized with sperm and are cultured for three to five days. The embryos are transferred into the woman’s uterus in a non-surgical procedure. About two weeks later, lab tests are done to check for pregnancy, and an ultrasound will confirm pregnancy three weeks after the transfer.
