When you’re ready to spend the day riding your all-terrain vehicle and enjoying the beautiful Texas summer, it’s disappointing to find out something is wrong with one of the parts. Whether it’s the ATV starter or another component, a variety of issues can affect this vehicle. Below, the experienced team at Eubanks Auto Electric, serving the residents of De Kalb, TX, discusses a few common problems and offers tips to troubleshoot them.

Problems With ATV Starters & Other Parts

1. The Vehicle Won’t Start

Perhaps you put the key in the ignition, try to start it and it does not start, you may have a starter problem. If you hear the motor rev up, only for it to die out again the issue might be due to corroded or worn-out spark plugs.  Inspect them and purchase a replacement if you notice any problems. If you don’t, the problem may be a faulty ignition coil. This is a more complicated component to fix, so it’s best to visit an expert for help.

2. The Battery Is Dead

ATV starterJust like the one in a traditional vehicle, sometimes, an ATV’s battery simply runs out of power. If you don’t hear the motor turn over when you try to start the engine, this is likely the case. You can use a multimeter to see if the component needs charging; you should hook it up if the meter reads less than 12 volts.

3. Oil Is Leaking From the Vehicle

If you notice a puddle of oil on the ground where you parked the ATV, there’s a leak somewhere. This issue is often due to a problem with the carburetor, which could be loose or have a faulty gasket. To ensure the true source of the leak is discovered and fixed, bring the vehicle to a professional right away.
