Snorkeling, splashing, lollipops and sunshine—could there be anything better? Well, if you ask the swimming pool construction experts at Captain Cook Pool & Spa in Hawaii, then the answer is a resounding yes! Since 1980, their team has been providing Hawaiian homeowners with vital pool services, including construction, swimming pool maintenance, and pool cover repair. And when it comes to planning fun pool time with your family, you’ll want to add the following games to your list:

  1. Marco polo: No school holiday would be complete without a game of marco polo. For an extra challenge, instead of the kids yelling “polo,” they get to splash instead—that way, “marco” really has a run for his or her money.
  2. Sharks & minnows: The shark is “it” and has to catch as many minnow as possible. The minnows have to make it to the other side of the pool while the shark stays firmly in the middle demarcated by bottles or the like.
  3. Chicken: Though a classic game, chicken is somewhat dangerous, and should only be played in an adequately large pool. Two people stand face-to-face while holding two others on their shoulders. The shoulder crew locks fingers and tries to wrestle the other off the shoulders of their teammate. The one who succeeds first is the winner!
  4. Relays: If you’re hosting a party and have lots of strong swimmers, divide up the teams and strokes and have the competitors carry a pool toy that they have to pass to their teammate. It adds extra complication if it drops!
  5. Treasure seekers: You should be able to find lots of pool toys that will sink to the bottom. But for extra effort, try using see-through plastic bottles. Remove the labels on your soda bottle, fill them with water while every closes their eyes, and let them sink to the bottom. You’ll be surprised at how challenging it will be for kids to find them.

Of course, when all else fails, you can always play a great game of don’t drop the ball. And, if you ever need any other above ground or inground swimming pool help, be sure to call the pool geniuses at Captain Cook Pool & Spa at (808) 323-3063; you can also visit them online for more information.
