For couples having difficulty conceiving, in vitro fertilization can be the solution they need to expand their family. Unfortunately, this assisted reproductive technology can be pricey—and is not always covered by health insurance. Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute of Honolulu is proud to call Hawaii—one of the few states demanding IVF coverage—home. Now, this fertility clinic is further pleased to congratulate Delaware on its recent decision to mandate infertility coverage throughout the state.

Why Delaware’s New In Vitro Laws Matter

High out-of-pocket costs should not prevent people from seeking out fertility treatments. Unfortunately, this is the case in most states. Delaware is only the sixteenth state to require coverage of IVF. Signed on June 30, 2018, Bill SB 139 requires insurers to cover a comprehensive list of infertility treatments, including IVF.

As more states enact such laws, IVF coverage will become normalized—meaning more people can achieve their dream of becoming parents.

In Vitro in the State of Hawaii

Insurance coverage of in vitro is a huge deal considering how much assisted reproductive technologies cost. The average price of one fresh ART cycle in the U.S. was $13,048 in 2006—almost half the annual disposable income for many people.

For this reason, historically only those with high socioeconomic status or insurance coverage have been able to afford IVF. Thanks to laws mandating coverage, most residents of Hawaii do not face such hurdles.

As Hawaii’s first IVF clinic, Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute of Honolulu has always been at the forefront of this cutting-edge technology. They have been helping patients expand their families since 1985. Find out more about their facilities and staff online. To request an appointment, call (808) 946-2226.
