Losing a pet is scary for both the animal and its owner. Throughout July 2018, Ohana Veterinary Hospital is partnering up with the Hawaii Humane Society to microchip your pets for only $10 per animal. 

How Microchipping Works

A microchip is a small transponder, about the size of a grain of rice, which contains a unique electronic identification number. It is injected just under the animal’s skin between the shoulder blades. Using a scanner, a veterinarian can check the ID and get the pet owner’s info by referring to a nationwide database. 

To help protect pets in the local community, Ohana Veterinary Hospital is offering microchips for only $10 per pet throughout July 2018. In addition to their veterinarians taking care of the physical procedure, they will mail and complete the registration form for you, ensuring your animal’s information is on file.

Unlike a collar, a microchip can’t slip off or be removed. Studies have shown that the rate of return for lost animals is 74% higher when they are microchipped. In some cases, pets have been reunited with their owners years after being lost thanks to this technology.
