The Best Haircut for Your Face Shape July 13, 2018

The Best Haircut for Your Face Shape, Trumbull, Connecticut

It happens to almost everyone. You go into the salon and show your hair stylist a picture of the haircut you want. When they’re finished, the style doesn’t quite live up to your expectations. It’s possible the hair stylist did a poor job, but, more than likely, you picked a haircut that doesn’t complement your face shape. Below are some haircut tips for four distinct face shapes.

The Best Haircuts for 4 Different Face Shapes

1. Round

People with round faces are often referred to as “baby faces,” as they look youthful and lack sharp, angular features. If you’re looking for a short ‘do, opt for a pixie cut with layers around the crown. For a mid-length style, go with a layered bob and side part for a slimming look. If you want to keep your locks long, ask for long layers starting at the jawline.

2. Heart

Heart-shaped faces are wide at the hairline and taper to a narrow, sometimes pointed chin. With this shape, you can either accentuate those angles or balance them. Just as pixie haircuts work well for round faces, they’re great for heart faces, too; just keep the top layers long and choppy. For a mid-length style, ask for uniform layers and side-swept bangs. For long locks, go with layers starting as high as the cheekbones and chin to accentuate those features.

3. Oval

haircutIf you have an oval face shape, with a longer face and narrow jaw, you can pull off almost any style. Long bobs perfectly complement an oval face. If you want to go bolder, ask for an asymmetrical bob for more of an angular look. For a mid-length ‘do, ask for layers to give your hair some volume so it doesn’t elongate your face. To balance out longer styles, opt for side-swept bangs to shorten, rather then lengthen, the face.

4. Square

Square-shaped faces are roughly as wide as they are long and feature a strong jawline. As with the heart shape, you can accentuate your angular features or soften them. To accentuate, go with a short, layered bob. Otherwise, choose a mid-length or long haircut with all-over layers an inch or two above the ends, and long bangs at the cheekbones.
