With bodies that are growing constantly, kids have appetites that just don’t quit. However, some snacks can be detrimental to oral health, causing issues like bad breath, cavities, and disappointing visits with your children’s dentist. Here are three snacks that are terrific for teeth, and how to make them appealing for your kids.

Teeth Healthy Snacks for Kids

1. Cheese Cubes

In addition to being chock-full of calcium, cheese cubes also contain active cultures that crowd out the types of bacteria that cause cavities. Eating cheese also helps to restore the natural pH balance of the saliva, preventing enamel erosion and dental decay. Stock your fridge with string cheese and wrapped cheese discs or consider serving cubes with sliced deli meats as a protein-packed snack between meals.

2. Raw Nuts

Additionally, because nuts are crunchy, they also act as natural teeth cleaning agents, whisking away tartar while you snack. Add nuts to homemade trail mixes containing other additions, like coconut, but remember that children’s dentists recommend staying away from sugar-filled treats like chocolate candies, even when they are served alongside healthier options like almonds.

3. Apple Slices

Apples are naturally fibrous, helping kids to whisk away plaque and tartar from the surfaces of their teeth as they munch on the crunchy fruit. To make apple slices more appealing to kids, consider cutting them finely and using cookie cutters to turn them into fun, tasty treats.
