CrossFit® is a well-rounded fitness regimen that provides exceptional results and a deep sense of pride in accomplishments along the journey. As you start training with Bombers CrossFit® in Dayton, OH, working towards participation in a competition is a good goal to set. Below, our certified trainers explain how to know when you’re ready to enter your first competition and how to prepare.

What to Know: Your First CrossFit Competition

When to Enter

You’re likely not going to feel ready to compete after your first CrossFit class, but the truth is that you are ready to sign up. You can join a competition at any time; all you need is the mental toughness, a desire to compete, and to learn all the movements. It’s recommended to sign up 12 to 16 weeks in advance, so there is time to prepare. Competitions are available at all levels, and there are plenty of events for beginners. Just ask your instructor what level they recommend you compete at and ask them to help you get ready after you’ve signed up. Even if you don’t win, you’ll get to know the competition world and will still have accomplished something incredible.

How to Prepare

CrossFitYou and your trainer should analyze your strengths and weaknesses to decide what to focus on during training. They will help you master the movements and build your endurance in areas that need improvement. Put more gym time into your schedule; one or two hours a day is best. Do a low-impact CrossFit workout two days before the competition and give yourself a rest day the day before with plenty of fluids and sleep.
