Today, Ion Technology Group is going to show you 3 very useful and valuable Windows 10 (and in some cases Windows 7/8/8.1) keyboard shortcuts to make your computing life easier.  Each of these helps enhance your Windows 10 experience and make computing a bit more usable during your everyday use.  Of course, incorporating the right IT support for your business ensures that these shortcuts work every time.

Aero Shake

Aero Shake is a way to minimize all open windows on your desktop except one – the one you may be working with at the time.  This was first introduced in Windows 7 and has been carried forward to Windows 10.  This one can be fun too, but just make sure you do not have an open container of liquid near your input devices or things could get messy.

Simply grab the window you want to isolate by clicking and holding the title bar.  This is the bar at the top of your window.  Click, hold and shake.  If you are a user that tends to have many open windows, this is a quick way to minimize all of them except the one you want and reduces clutter.

Show the Desktop

If you simply want to minimize all your open windows and restart with a fresh desktop, there are several ways to do this.  Look closely at the bottom right corner of your screen presentation; you will notice a vertical slither.  It is thin, so look closely.  Select that with your mouse and all open windows will minimize.

Another way to do this is by using keyboard shortcuts.  Press and hold the WINDOWS KEY + D and you will accomplish the same task.  All open windows will be minimized.  Again, for the busy employee, this is a quick way to temporarily reduce your application window clutter and get you back to some assemblance of order.  Ion’s Managed IT Services is another way to learn more shortcuts, features and enhancements for your network devices.

Aero Snap

Dual monitors are awesome.  Three monitors are even better.  The more monitor real estate and good computer hardware, the more efficient you become.  However, what if you only have one monitor?  Ion Technology Group can help you out by introducing the Aero Snap command.  When comparing two documents (or more), you can cleanly align multiple documents within the same window without meticulously manually reshaping the application windows in question.  Let us give it a whirl.

Make one of your needed application windows active by selecting it.  Now simultaneously press and hold the WINDOWS KEY + RIGHT ARROW KEY.  This could be the right or left arrow key, depending on where you want to move the window to its final position.  The active application window will start to move.  Snap that to the right side, for example.  Now select another open window, simultaneously press and hold the WINDOWS KEY + LEFT ARROW KEY and snap that to the left hand side of the monitor.  Bravo!  You have aero snapped two documents, one to the right side of the monitor and one to the left.

You still have control over the positioning, so if you need to swap those open windows, simply engage the WINDOWS KEY + THE APPROPRIATE ARROW KEY and move those documents around as you see fit.

If you do have multiple monitors, this gets even better.  You can use the same Windows shortcut keys and move your documents around both (or more than two monitors).  You will find this helps with organization and comparing information from multiple documents.
