Perhaps you suffer from persistent back pain, or maybe you’ve recently sustained a neck injury and are seeking help. People visit chiropractors for many reasons, but if it’s your first time, you may be wondering what to expect. Led by Dr. Elizabeth Kautz Koch, Mountain Spring Chiropractic, Inc., in Fisherville, VA, helps patients overcome a broad range of spinal conditions to achieve overall balance in the body. Here, the practice’s dedicated team walks you through what your first visit will entail.

A Guide to Your First Chiropractor Visit

A Patient-Focused Consultation

After you’ve completed your patient forms, you’ll be called in to meet with the chiropractor, Dr. Koch. She’ll ask you some questions to develop an accurate understanding of the condition that brought you in. She may ask about your concerns, levels of discomfort, and any relevant aspects of your medical history. You’ll be encouraged to share any other information you may think is helpful and to ask the doctor any questions you may have about treatments or services.

Examination & X-Rays

chiropractorFollowing your consultation, Dr. Koch will perform a physical assessment to test for reflexes and flexibility, as well as general physical health. If she determines there could be a misalignment or another spinal issue contributing to your condition, she may also advise having X-rays performed. These can be completed conveniently within the office.

Once your X-rays and evaluation are complete, Dr. Koch will provide a detailed report of findings to explain how she can help, how often you’ll need to receive treatments, and what the cost of treatments might look like. Often, patients are amazed to see their spinal X-rays, and can identify misalignments and degeneration on their own.

Your First Treatment

After all of your questions have been answered, Dr. Elizabeth will invite you to receive your first treatment at the end of your appointment. Remedies could include physical therapy, soft tissue massages, and spinal adjustments. Nothing will be performed without the patient’s consent, and you’ll always be able to give feedback about treatments during your appointment.
