Long after the credits roll, many moviegoers are interested in knowing more about the characters and stories depicted on the screen. To appeal to die-hard fans, production studios often release sequels to popular movies. Classic film franchises also get new life in the form of reboots and re-imaginings to appeal to new audiences. Below are a few updated flicks to see at the cinema in 2018.

5 Movie Sequels & Reboots to Keep on Your Radar This Summer

1. Overboard (May 4)

This re-imaging of the 1987 Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell romantic comedy sees a gender role reversal of the lead characters. In the original, after falling off a yacht, a narcissistic heiress is led to believe she is the wife of a middle-class carpenter. In the reboot, a fired cleaning lady tricks a millionaire with memory loss into thinking she’s his wife. Anna Faris and Eugenio González Derbez take the reins in the update, and play both parts to hilarious perfection like their predecessors.

2. Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)

One of the most popular characters from this decades-long space odyssey gets a standalone story in the form of this summer release. The movie follows a young Han Solo as he makes his living as part of a gang of galactic smugglers. The movie also shows the origin of Solo’s relationships with Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian, two other franchise favorites.

3. Oceans 8 (June 8)

A spin-off of the male-centric Ocean’s film trilogy sees the titular character’s younger sister plan a heist. After assembling a team, Debbie Ocean attempts to steal a $150 million necklace from the Met Gala. Sandra Bullock stars in the title role, joined by a cast of accomplices played by Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kahling, Cate Blanchett, and other celebrated actresses of film and TV fame.

4. The Incredibles 2 (June 15)

5. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)

The fifth installment in the venerable Jurassic Park film series, this summer blockbuster is a direct sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World. The continuing story follows the adventures of dinosaur trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Jurassic World employee turned dinosaur rights activist Claire Dearing (Dallas Bryce Howard) three years after the Jurassic World theme park was abandoned on Isla Nublar.
