FAQ About Getting a Dental Crown

1. What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a cap crafted to fit on top of a damaged tooth. It’s custom-shaped to fit your bite pattern. Mainly are made out of ceramic or porcelain for cosmetic concerns and strength of material. Once created, your dentist will use adhesive to fix it into place. They require regular dental care and could last up to 15 years  or more when cared for properly.

2. What Is It Used For?

This may be from trauma or decay, and the crown will prevent further damage. They can be used for cosmetic purposes as well. If you have a discolored tooth, one that’s smaller than others, or worn teeth due to bite issue, a porcelain or ceramic dental crown can be applied.

3. What’s the Procedure Like?

During your visit, We  will scan your teeth with a intraoral camera. No more yucky impression material ! Then Dr. McCardle will begin prepping the tooth. After prep is complete, we will rescan the tooth in order to create the perfect crown for your tooth. After we have made the crown digitally, then we send to our milling station. It will begin to mill your tooth, soon there will be a crown in our hands. It takes about 2 hours to complete the crown from start to finish. That day you walk out with your permanent crown. Our new system is called CAD/CAM , it is new and amazing technology. We are so excited to be offering this for our patients. It takes away all the impressions , which is wonderful because this is usually worst part according to most patients. The best part, no more follow up visits to get your permanent crown. We truly are loving our new technology and we know you will too.
