In this matter, through thorough, effective, and vigorous advocacy, Mr. Corletta followed up on his work for a client, for whom he obtained a dismissal of a felony DWI Indictment in September, 2017. The client had several prior alcohol-related convictions and was applying for a professional license after having attended school for 2 years and having earned a degree.

However, the licensing authority questioned the client's moral character based upon the client’s prior criminal record.

Mr. Corletta represented the client before the Professional Licensing Board, and conducted a full hearing, in which the state vigorously opposed licensure.

Mr. Corletta called several witnesses, and constructed an effective and persuasive case to show the client had been rehabilitated, successfully completed substance abuse treatment, and was at the top of their class in school. Mr. Corletta even called instructors from the school to express their opinion on the client's competency, scholarship, and character.

In an unusual decision, the Board disregarded the client's extensive prior criminal history, and permitted licensure. Therefore, not only did Mr. Corletta achieve a favorable result for the client in the criminal matter, avoiding jail or probation, but also cleared the path for the client to work in their newly chosen profession.
