After selecting your paint colors and dedicating a few nights and weekends to your walls, your interior painting project is finally complete. And while you used high-quality products with the right roller brushes and other painting accessories, a few minor mistakes were made. Below are a few and how to correct them.

How to Correct 5 Interior Painting Mistakes

1. Paint on the Carpet

Use a scraper tool to remove as much of the paint as you can, preferably while it is still wet. Dab the remaining paint with a sponge until the carpet looks clean, then cover it with a dry, clean cloth to absorb the remaining liquid. Do not rub the stain, as it could work the paint color deeper into the carpet or spread it to other fibers. Cleanse the affected area with dishwashing detergent and water, and check it once it’s dry. If you notice a dry paint stain, purchase a paint removal product from a home supply store.

2. Missed Spots

interior paintingWait until the paint dries to fix missed spots—about four to five hours. Attempting a correction before the curing process is complete risks a bigger mess, such as wrinkling the surrounding paint with your brush, so refer to your manufacturer’s instructions in case it needs more time to dry. Use a brush to fill spots in again.

3. Drips

Remove fresh drips on walls, trim, or flooring with a clean cloth or paper towel. Observe the area once it is dry for missed spots if the drip was on a newly painted wall. If the paint is dry, gently sand the affected surface with 80- to 120-grit sandpaper to prevent scrapes.

4. Bubbles

Use high-grit sandpaper or a scraper tool to remove paint bubbles. Apply primer and more paint once the wall is smooth for a permanent fix. Also known as paint blisters, these imperfections occur when you do not use a primer or paint a surface that has not fully dried.

5. Wrinkles

Sand wrinkles once the product has dried, remove the resulting dust with a damp cloth, and follow with primer. Allow the primer to fully cure before applying more paint. As with bubbles, wrinkles occur when the paint has not dried completely. They can also appear when you apply the product with a heavy hand.
