The shuffleboard table is one of the most well-known and entertaining pub games ever invented. It involves sliding pucks along a waxed table onto marked sections at the other end to earn points and knock your opponent's pucks off the board. It requires a combination of skill, strategy, and blind luck to become a champion. Below are some tips to improve your skills, so you can beat your opponent for bragging rights.

5 Tips to Improve Your Shuffleboard Game

1. Side Wheeling

Shuffleboard Practice placing your puck in the high point areas along the side of the table. Because you're near the table's edge, it becomes riskier for your opponent to try to knock your piece off. They may simply ignore your puck and concentrate on trying to outscore you.

2. Study Your Opponent's Weaknesses

Examine where your opponent is weak. For instance, do they tend to undershoot or send their pucks to one side? If so, play to their weakness. Control the opposite side of the board, or concentrate on long shots into the far end of the table.

3. Hold the Puck Properly

Cover the puck with the palm of your dominant hand. Place your thumb lightly at the puck's rear, and let your fingers gently touch the edges. Do not touch the table.

4. Use Your Body

Put the weight of your body behind the push. Gently extend your arm as you lean forward and keep your wrist straight for greater control. Flicking your wrist can send the puck to one side or beyond the far lip of the table.

5. Play Defense When You're Ahead

Shoot for points instead of playing defensively until you pull ahead. Then adjust your strategy to defense. Knock your opponent's pucks off the table to prevent them from catching up.
