Who can be held responsible for a dog attack under Ohio law?
Under Ohio’s dog bite liability statute, an owner is not the only person who can be held responsible for injuries caused by a dog. In addition, people called “keepers’ or “harborers” can also be sued and be forced to pay damages for a dog attack. A keeper is someone who has physical control of the dog at the time of the attack. This could be a neighbor who volunteered to walk the dog when it bit someone. Another person that can be liable is a harborer. This is someone who owns or rents property where the dog lives. This may be a stray dog who lives in someone’s garage and the property owner feeds it from time to time.
