Happy hour with your co-workers or boss is a fun way to get to know each other outside the office. Just because you are not at work, however, doesn’t mean that you should throw caution to the wind. You can safely enjoy a fun evening at the Papa Rocco’s bar in Gulf Shores, AL, with your colleagues if you follow the guide below.

Do:

Show up.

If you’re invited to a work happy hour, go. You may not feel like going out, especially after a full day at work, but the event is a way to build a rapport with your team and get to know a different side of them. Even just for one drink, you’ll show that you care about being a team player. You spend a lot of your time with these people, so it’s important to build a relationship.

Make the rounds.

barTalk to as many people as you can at the event. Spending the entire time chatting with your desk mate defeats the purpose of the night out. Introduce yourself to co-workers you don’t recognize and chat with people you don’t know well; you may make some lasting new relationships.

Don’t:

Get too drunk.

Know your limits. Try alternating alcoholic drinks with water and order an appetizer if you start to feel too much of a buzz. If you get too drunk, you may become unprofessional and do something you’ll regret later. Save the wild night out for your close friends, not all your colleagues.

Talk about work.

Happy hour is a chance to get to know people in a less formal setting. Don’t discuss work; take this chance to open up and talk about your personal life. Just be careful to keep boundaries, as you don’t want to be the person who overshares or crosses a line with their co-workers by saying something inappropriate.

If you’re looking for the perfect bar to hold your work happy hour, visit Papa Rocco’s. Their drink specials are available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and they have live music every night for your enjoyment. Call (251) 948-7262 with any questions about their menu, and tell your team to meet you tonight for an incredibly evening!
