If you’re curious about how the St. Louis Alumni Association came to be, here’s a brief history of how the organization was first established in Honolulu and how it’s grown since.

A History of the St. Louis Alumni Association

The genesis of the St. Louis School can be traced all the way back to the Society of Mary, an organization founded by Father William Joseph Chaminade dedicated to educating society on the values of Catholicism. His missions traveled all across the world, with five of its members reaching Oahu in 1883 where they were greeted by the faculty of the St. Louis School (a successor to the College of Ahuimanu that had recently been relocated and was in need of direction). These Brothers of Mary were chosen to lead the new chapter of the school and foster a new generation of students.

The St. Louis Alumni Association was established in 1907 by Brother Gabriel Bertram Bellinghausen with the goal of supporting the St. Louis School as well as its many generations of graduates. Led by Brother Bellinghausen and presided over by James L. Holt (the first president of the St. Louis Alumni Association) the organization has gone from having 200 charter members upon its original inception to 2,600 today. Not only has the organization strived to promote the school’s projects and undertakings, but it’s worked to bring previous generations of students together by hosting class reunions and alumni events and by providing a clubhouse for graduates and members of the community to come together. The St. Louis Alumni Association has even dedicated itself to helping its members in times of hardship, offering a helping hand as well as a community for former students to turn to.

The St. Louis Alumni Association has a long, proud history as a cultural institution of Honolulu, HI, so consider joining this distinguished organization today. Whether you’re a previous graduate looking to get in touch with old classmates or are a current student considering investing in your future, the St. Louis Alumni Association will be happy to welcome you as a member.
