For many people, class reunions are a time of fun and nostalgia. However, planning such a big event takes a lot of time and responsibility. Thankfully, the St. Louis Alumni Association (SLAA) in Honolulu, HI, have shared a few helpful tips, so that you and your classmates can have a fantastic time.

How to Plan a Class Reunion

1. Start Planning Early

Since organizing such a big event is time-consuming, you should begin planning at least 18 months in advance. Find classmates through social media and business networking platforms. You can also create an online group for everyone to join, where people can catch up with each other and you can relay pertinent information about the reunion.

2. Get Assistance

You’ll need a small committee to handle various aspects of the event, such as maintaining social media pages, obtaining a venue, and researching class history. The team at the SLAA have plenty of experience handling reunions and will lend a helping hand to alumni during the planning phase, including finding accommodations for traveling attendees.

3. Find the Right Venue

It should be large enough to comfortably accommodate everyone. You should also ensure that there is enough space for entertainment. For instance, the SLAA has hall rentals that can hold up to 225 guests, and their Kalaepohaku Room has a stage area for presenters and musicians.

4. Simplify Ticket Sales

Ticket sales are one of the most difficult aspects of a class reunion. The money from the purchases is often used for meals and other expenses, and it also serves as a headcount. Instead of taking care of this on your own, minimize potential problems by using a third-party ticket seller to handle everything.

5. Don’t Neglect Hosting Duties

People are often nervous attending reunions. Set up check-in tables where everyone will be greeted upon arrival. You can also help ease people in by spearheading the fun. For instance, create a playlist of songs that were popular during the class year. Your classmates will appreciate the gesture as they take a trip down memory lane. Above all, just have fun!

Since 1907, the St. Louis Alumni Association has provided support to St. Louis School and its alumni.
