Whether you’re a long-time glasses wearer or you’ve recently found out you need them, there and pros and cons to having to wear them. There are plenty of trendy frames to choose from, but some people find wearing them to be tedious; either way, they serve a purpose. Learn about if eyeglasses are right for you.

Pros:

Easy, comfortable & stylish.

Almost anyone can wear glasses, while not everyone can wear contacts. Some people have trouble touching their eyes to insert contacts, while others’ eyes are too sensitive to handle them. Eyeglasses are a great, comfortable option for people with sensitive eyes. Additionally, they are extremely stylish and can complement a number of face shapes.

Cheaper than contacts or LASIK.

Contacts need to be frequently replaced, sometimes multiple times a month. A pair of prescription frames will last for years, making them a cheaper long-term option. Lasik surgery costs thousands of dollars, while eyeglasses can cost a few hundred dollars or less, depending on the frames.

Protect eyes & avoid dryness.

glassesGlasses provide some protection from dust and debris compared to contacts. Wearing contacts for long hours can also dry out your eyes, especially in arid temperatures or buildings with the air conditioning cranked up. Glasses stay comfortable in dry climates and help you avoid dryness.

Cons:

Some find them uncomfortable.

Not everyone likes having plastic or metal frames on their face. They can be a nuisance when working out or playing sports. When you sweat, they often slide down the bridge of your nose. These aren’t major problems, but some people find them frustrating.

Can be lost or broken.

Especially if you tend to take your frames on and off throughout the day, they can be easily lost. If you drop or step on them, the lenses or frame can be broken fairly easily.

Smudges & scratches.

No matter how often you clean them, it can seem like it’s impossible to get your eyeglass lenses completely clean. The oils from your fingers and hair can leave a stubborn residue that requires constant cleaning. If you’re not disciplined about keeping them in a sleeve or case, the lenses can be easily scratched.
