Fashion is an art form constantly evolving. Sometimes it reflects popular culture, history, and other times, entirely new ideas. Whatever it may be, it always makes a statement. For spring and summer 2018, one of the most significant trends hot off the runways of Milan, New York, and Paris is Western-wear. LadDiDa in Moorestown, NJ, is a women’s fashion boutique specializing in stylish, modern clothing and accessories. Their team of experienced stylists is here to explain the trend and how to take it from the runway to real life.

Which Designers Inspired the Trend?

women's fashion moorsetown NJDesigners from New York to Paris produced Western-inspired looks for their spring and summer 2018 collections. These included Céline’s Phoebe Philo, Tom Ford, Versace’s revival of Gianni originals, and Raf Simmons for Calvin Klein. Philo had the most extravagant of the bunch, with pieces such as a lambskin trench coat hand-embroidered and embellished with shells. Tom Ford models sported tailored Canadian tuxedos, while Versace models had leather cowboy hats and bolero ties. Simmons’ was perhaps the most talked-about, with two-tone Western button-down shirts in his debut fall 2017 show, followed by similarly Western-inspired trousers and silk shirts paired with cowboy boots.

How Can You Wear It?

Keep in mind many runway looks are not ready-to-wear. They are meant to grab attention and make a statement, not necessarily to be worn in everyday life. These extravagant, unique, and sometimes peculiar looks are intended to inspire, rather than be taken literally. There’s no reason to shy away from the Western look even if its runway presence seems a bit intimidating. Instead, incorporate Western-inspired pieces along with other seasonal favorites. For instance, pair cowboy boots with a floral dress, or a simple T-shirt and embroidered jeans or shorts with simple slide sandals. If you’re feeling particularly apprehensive, start with some Western jewelry.
