What Are the Requirements for a License in New York?

If you want to obtain a driver’s license in New York state, there are a few steps to follow. you must first obtain a leaner’s permit. You must pass a 20 question written test and a vision test. Get a NYS Driver’s Manual and study up! Once you’ve obtained your learner’s permit, you must take either a driver’s education course through a high school, or take the 5-Hour Pre-Licensing Class. You may take driving lessons to prepare to drive safely and pass the road test.

How Do Classes Help?

Driving LessonsWhen you take a driving lessons, you’ll be taught the skills you need to drive safely. You’ll have the chance to try techniques and maneuvers with supervision and to get real-time feedback from a knowledgeable teacher.

How Long Will My Driving Lessons Take?

When applying for a junior license (under 18), you’ll need to log 50 hours of driving practice with your instructor or another licensed adult. Of those hours, at least 15 must be after dark. If you are over 18, this requirement does not apply, and you only need to complete your 5-hour class.

Who Provides the Car?

The driving school will provide the car for your lessons. Driving school vehicles are dual controlled for your safety. Some driving schools also offer home pickups and may allow you to use the car you’ve practiced with for your final road test.
