In the meantime, read up on the history of National Chicken Wing Day and why it’s a time for celebration.

What Is the History of National Chicken Wing Day?

The birth of the chicken wing is Buffalo, NY, hence the name buffalo wings. Although the original creator is sometimes disputed, the most accepted story alleges that Teressa Bellissimo, who co-owned the Anchor Bar with her husband Frank, came up with it in 1964. Chicken wings were generally tossed or used for soup stock at the time. After receiving an accidental shipment, Teressa devised to fry them up and toss them in butter and hot sauce as a snack for her son Dominick and his friends. Teressa and Frank started serving them to customers, who immediately fell in love. Not long after, other restaurants began following in her footsteps, and buffalo wings became a citywide favorite. Finally, in 1977, the City of Buffalo officially declared July 29th to be National Chicken Wing Day.
