School is out, the living is easy, and this summer has a great lineup of adventure, horror, and indie movies to keep you entertained. The season really began with the April 27 release of Avengers: Infinity War, followed by other big releases of Deadpool 2 and Solo: A Star Wars Story in May. These are three to see if you haven’t already—then, plan your calendar for the following must-see films.

Top 5 Summer Movies for 2018

1. Hereditary (June 8)

This film was a hit at its premiere at the Sundance film festival. The supernatural horror flick depicts the story of a woman (Toni Collette) who suspects that her newly-deceased mother is haunting and terrorizing her daughter. Chilling and tense, the film explores the terrifying power of family secrets. The film is written by newcomer Ari Aster and stars Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, and Ann Dowd. Rated R.

2. The Incredibles 2 (June 15)

new-movies-for-kidsThe modern superhero family returns with a focus on mega-mom Helen (voiced by Holly Hunter) as she leaves hubby Bob (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) at home to continue her crime fighting adventures as Elastigirl. Their new baby develops his super powers while a new villain hatches nefarious plots that bring Frozone (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) and the Incredible family back together to fight the bad guys. This one’s a sure family summer hit. Written and directed by Brad Bird. Rated NR.

3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)

When a dormant volcano begins to erupt on Isla Nublar—abandoned to the remaining dinosaurs for the last 3 years—a group of scientists comes together to rescue them from potential re-extinction. In the background, a terrifying conspiracy begins to emerge. Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Rated PG-13.

4. Sorry to Bother You (July 6)

Another Sundance favorite, this science fiction comedy written and directed by Boots Riley is a humorous antidote to all the heart-thumping action and horror coming out this summer. The zany premise presents telemarketer Cassius Green (LaKeith Stanfield) in a present-day but alternative Oakland, CA. His attempts for professional success take him into a dark universe. Starring LaKeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson. Rated NR.

5. Christopher Robin (August 3)

Ewan McGregor plays the grown-up Christopher Robin who returns to his beloved Hundred Acre Wood to rediscover his childhood spirit. Winnie the Pooh and others must come together to aid their old playmate. This is a heartwarming live action film from Disney that both adults and children will love. Starring Ewan McGregor and Jim Cummings as the voice of Winnie the Pooh. NR rating.
