Summer is finally here! You know what that means… it’s officially bikini season. Whether you’re local or just visiting in Waikiki, it’s time to don a swimsuit to enjoy the warm weather and cool ocean breeze. Because of the fact that it’s bikini season, it means that it’s also time to care for your swimsuits. Many bikini brands at Born of the Water, located at Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu, do have care instructions on their labels, but sometimes it’s good to get a refresher course so your bikinis last the summers to come!
Rinse, Rinse, Rinse!
Always wash out your swimwear with fresh water immediately after a day at the beach or the pool. The fresh water will allow any chemicals to be rinsed from your suit that might alter the color of the bikini. When at home, hand washing your swim top or swim bottom with very little, mild detergent can help take out some possible stains.
Chemicals such as chlorine from pools or from drug-store sunscreen can damage swimsuits. So, try to limit your time in pools or jacuzzis or rinse off in fresh water every hour to keep your suits beautiful! Drug-store sunscreen can “yellow” swimwear, so we recommend being careful when applying or try an organic sunscreen!
DO NOT Put Your Pieces In The Dryer
For the love all bikinis, never put your suits in the dryer. The heat from the dryer can damage the fabric and elastic in many bikinis. Opt for drying your bikini in a cool, shady spot and lay it flat. Do not put your pieces in the sun, since it can fade the fabric.
Protect Your Bikini
The easiest way to keep your bikini safe is to protect it! If you’re not in the water, do your best to avoid sitting in the sand or on any rough surfaces. Using a pareo to cover up is an easy way to keep your bikini bottoms free of snags and avoid possible stains!
