Mr. Corletta helped a young client, struggling with a drug and alcohol problem, avoid jail on a probation violation and new criminal charge I People v. A.B. (5/18).

In this case, Mr. Corletta’s client was charged with Assault. The Complainant was someone already on probation trying to curry favor with the authorities. Then, based upon the new charge, the client was violated on their probation.

Acting quickly, Mr. Corletta first directed his client not to speak to probation about the incident, to avoid any interrogation about it. Second, Mr. Corletta promptly filed a Motion to Dismiss the new charge, which was ultimately granted. Third, Mr. Corletta pointed out to the probation violation judge that the charge had no merit, and been dismissed, and that his client was fully complying with probation, including completing drug and alcohol treatment. The Judge was impressed, and immediately restored the client to probation.

As a result, Mr. Corletta’s young client not only avoided jail, but potential loss of employment, and any gains they had made. Both the client and the client's mother were extremely grateful.
