Framed artwork and photographs add the perfect personalized touch to any décor. However, hanging them can be a challenge. If the proper technique isn’t used, you can end up with unnecessary holes in your walls, unlevel or unsecured pictures, and damaged frames. To make sure your custom picture frames look exactly how you envisioned, keep the following tips in mind for hanging.
Steps to Hanging Your Custom Picture Frames Properly
Choose Your Placement
One of the most difficult parts of hanging artwork is deciding on a location. As you consider different spots, you want to make sure the center of the picture is at eye level, or approximately 57” from the floor. It’s also important to position your custom picture frames out of direct sunlight and away from sources of humidity.
Select Your Hardware
Next, you will need to select the hardware you’re going to use to secure your frames to the wall. Lighter frames can often be hung on a normal nail, while heavier pieces will likely need a screw or wall anchor. The hardware you pick will also depend on the wall material, the type of hanging hardware on the frame, and whether or not you will be attaching the hardware to a stud.
Measure for Straightness
To get your custom picture frames positioned properly, you’ll start by measuring 57” up from the floor and marking the wall. Then, you will need to measure the distance between the top of the wire on the back of the frame and the top and divide that number by two. Once you’ve taken all your measurements, apply self-adhesive rubber bumpers to the bottom corners of the frame to prevent marks on the wall, hang it, and use a level to check for straightness.
When you take the correct approach to hanging your custom picture frames, you’ll be able to create a wall that looks just as appealing as an art gallery.
